About the Writer

Well… As Alvy Singer (played by Woody Allen) famously repeated a Groucho Marx quote in the movie ‘Annie Hall’ – ‘I don’t care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members’ (it also appears in Freud’s ‘Wit & its relation to the Subconscious’); this sums me up as well…

I have tried to be different, as much as possible, in positive ways. Many who have known me think that I also suffer from the side effects of the same. But then, that’s how it is.

Born in a small town in Bihar, educated in one of the most prestigious institutions of the region (Ramakrisna Mission Vidyapith), I moved to Delhi for my higher education (10+2 from The Mother’s International School). Having graduated in Finance (from the College of Business Studies, DU), I went on for my Masters in Human Resource Management (from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai). I have had a good education. Credit must all go to my parents, who happily went through a lot for the same.

Post which, I did work a couple of years in a corporate (Johnson & Johnson Consumer India Ltd) in Mumbai, handling Campus Relations and Recruitment, but as I had always suspected, the environment did not work to my liking. Quitting however seemed like the most difficult decision I have made in my life. The city was amazing. The money was real good. But then, are we not all trying to move upwards from there! In the end, the decision to leave the city was the one that proved to be the slightly difficult one. But then, the charming Delhi beckoned…

Now, at 25 (in 2009), I am a teacher, at Delhi University (teaching Management at CBS) and at a pre MBA coaching institute (teaching English), quite paradoxically preparing these young kids for the same life that I have happily escaped.

People fascinate, but at the same time, disappoint me. That explains my interest in Psychology, and at the same time, Philosophy.

The last, and as they say, but not the least, I am a man of words. Since I was young, I was full of these real emotions, and to express them, the only way at my disposal was to write. I have taken a shot at Cinema also, did see some sparks, and I will be back for another shot soon. As of now, I write. I write and direct plays. I am also working on a yet unpublished work of fiction and an anthology of poetry.

Writing, and more so, good writing requires practice, and readers and their feedback. The blog has been created primarily for this purpose.

A writer, though arguably, is nothing if not for the readers. So I sincerely hope that you will enjoy what I write. I will be glad to have your views. Inspirations after all, are all coming from you. Mistakes however, are all of my imagination. I insist…

In life, as Umberto Eco puts it, the important thing is not the finding, but the seeking. It is the journeys that matter more than the destination. So here I am, taking another step….

Hey.. thank you so much.. Having taken the plunge, I realize that courage was needed more to ‘not follow’ what you call the heart. Doing what I am doing is simple. And whatever courage is needed comes from all the kind wishes like yours.. Why don’t u write to me at abhishek.theoutsider@gmail.com ! It will be a pleasure getting to know you. Looking forward to hearing from you.

      • Courage was needed more “not follow” the heart? Correct me if you are refering to id that becomes ego and then pesters to strive for super ego- perfectionism/wordly success.

Dil tha ya dimaag tha jo bhi tha woh ek lamha faisle ka tha.

And you won your peace in return.

What I meant was there is no reason to not follow the heart. So if I had been stuck where I was, that would have needed more efforts. And as far as spending time on your page is concerned, the long prose pieces will take some reading and I will be back with more time. And the discussion on Psychoanalysis, let’s keep it for when you have time… I swear by Freud.
The media or the form you choose does not make a difference as long as you are making an impact the way you want to. Keep writing. All the best. And yes, keep reading too. Good to have you.

  3. Yes, Indeed words have power much more than anything else…Did not know that u teach in DU also..!

  4. Abhi

It was good knowing you @ TISS and you definitely showed your creative side in discussions and you love for writing and reading… It is really nice to know someone who follows his heart… Chanced upon your blog and I come away with a lot more depth to your being… Reach for the stars… All the very best
